Mexico City & Sand

This is for the traveler who’s been to Cabo and Cancun and feels like they’ve “seen it all” in Mexico. While I love both destinations for a relaxing beach vacay, there’s just so much more to Mexico and this particular combo gives you a taste of both culture and the beach. Enjoying the hustle and bustle of a major city and the seclusion of Punta Mita made Mexico feel entirely new. As a Four Seasons Preferred Partner, my clients receive exclusive upgrades and amenities. Please contact me if you’re interested in booking either of these properties.

Mexico City

Celebrating Day of the Dead in Mexico City has been on my travel bucket list for as long as I can remember. Then I saw the Disney movie Coco this year and I got even more excited. Did you know the Día de Los Muertos parade in the city wasn’t a thing until James Bond: Spectre came out in 2015? Props and materials were donated from filming and now the parade is an annual event attracting millions of locals and tourists. The city is simply magical during this time with beautiful ofrendas around every corner and thousands of carnations lining the streets. Keep in mind Mexico City is 7,000 feet above sea level so one tequila shot may feel like two when you first arrive.

Four Seasons Mexico City

The Four Seasons is in a great location on Paseo de la Reforma and overlooks Chapultepec Park. The property is simply stunning with a central courtyard where both locals and guests hang out for cocktails at Fifty Mils (one of the top 50 bars in the U.S.) or weekend jazz brunch.

Activities

  • Mezcal tasting at Fifty Mils

  • Jazz brunch at Zanaya

  • Hot air balloon experience at Teotihuacan Pyramids

  • Día de Los Muertos parade (Oct. 31)

  • Frida Kahlo Museum

  • Walk in Chapultepec Park

Punta Mita

Punta Mita is a 45-minute drive from Puerto Vallarta airport and if you’re traveling from Mexico City it’s just over an hour flight. This was the perfect destination for the second half of the trip because we got the chance to unwind, enjoy the beach and spa after the busyness of the city.

Four Seasons Punta Mita

This is one of the most impressive resorts I’ve seen in Mexico. What really makes this property so special is the hospitality and service from the staff. There’s so much to do onsite there’s really no need to leave the resort, but they offer daily shuttles to Punta Mita town if you’re wanting to get out. From multiple golf courses to a lazy river and private beach there’s enough to keep you entertained for a solid week. The highlight of this trip was releasing baby sea turtles on the beach. The Four Seasons partners with local marine biologists to protect sea turtle nests and assist with the releases to give the babies a better shot at survival. I got tears in my eyes knowing they imprint on the beach where they’re released and will return as adults in 10-15 years!

Activities

  • Surfing

  • Snorkeling/diving

  • Beach yoga & workouts

  • Tequila tasting & culture classes

  • Sea turtle release (typically in the fall/winter)

  • Shopping & lunch in Punta Mita (20-minute drive)
